1. Some wives cheat because their husbands cheated on them first. They want to get their own back and feel justified cheating on their husbands because they want their husbands to feel the same pain of betrayal that they felt.
2. Other wives say they cheat to show their husbands that they are still desirable to other men.
3. Wifes may cheat because they feel neglected.  This is likely to occur if the husband works away from home, that in itself is not necessarily the problem, the problem occurs when the husband gets back from work and doesn't pay his wife any or much attention.
4. If the marriage is bumpy or stressful a wife may turn to another man to provide what is lacking in her own relationship with her husband.
5. Still many more wives cheat for the pure thrill of it.  It's well known that in the early days of a relationship the brain releases powerful endorphins which create a state of europhoria, that in itself can be a real turn-on and even addictive.  Unfortunately when a wife cheats because of this she will rarely remain faithful to any one man for any length of time.

Throughout time women have been seen as the weaker sex, both physically and emotionally, especially in marriage or relationships.  However, women of today have a heightened self awareness and whereas in the past they were largely closeted from men and therefore didn't have the opportunities to stray, in todays' modern world, partly as a result of the women's movement and a greater equality with men, women come up against many more temptations and opportunities to pursue an illicit relationship and cheat on their hapless husbands.
